The Wrexham Elite Marathon & Half Marathon was devised in spring 2020 when it became clear that some of the big city marathons and half marathons might not be staged due to COVID-19.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions in Wales at the time, we eventually staged a version of the race across the English border in Pulford in Cheshire in April 2021 and it was a huge success. The concept and format of getting the fastest elite and sub-elite marathon runners from the UK, Ireland and further afield really worked well and we saw some amazing results.
For 2022 we return to our original plan in Wrexham (North Wales). This 7 lap race is open to athletes capable of running a sub 3:00 hour marathon or the elite half marathon equivalent (1:15 men and 1:30 women).
The lapped course provides and excellent venue for athletes to bring personalised drinks to numbered drink stations.
We have a new and World Athletics accredited fast course. It is on flat, well maintained roads in a predominantly rural region with one stretch through an industrial area. The route will lend itself to fast times and will be an excellent venue for supporters and spectators.
The marathon will start and finish on Oak Road Wrexham (LL13 9RG). The half marathon will set off at the same time and at the same place but will finish on Holt Road (B1530).
The race is fully supported with a road closure, the most up to date integrated chip-timing, free to download photographs, on course nutrition and free designated parking.
Full Race Instructions will be emailed approximately 10 days before the race and race numbers will be posted around the same time.
Race entry is £38 for the marathon and £26 for the half marathon (plus online registration fee) up until 1st December 2021 when the price will rise to £48 and £31 respectively.
If your results link does not support your entry we reserve the right to cancel your place although we are happy to assess entries based on times for other distances.
Please note that this race is separate from our Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday 5th September 2022.
Due to our upfront costs we are unable to offer refunds.
Runners can transfer their entry to another elite standard runner using the 'Transfer My Entry' button on their original confirmation email.
Runners can also transfer between marathon and half marathon if space allows by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
All transfers must be completed by midnight on Sunday 17th April 2022.
